The Pavlovsk Palace

The Romanovs. From left to right: OlgaMaria,Nicholas IIAlexandraAnastasiaAlexei, and Tatiana, pictured in 1913 with five of his ten children.  Tsar Nicholas lived in the Alexander Palace which is near Catherine's Palace.  All three palaces we visited are in the town of Pushkin, about thirty kilometers from St. Petersburg.  Tsar Nicholas abdicated the throne in 1917 and was exiled to Siberia with his family.  They were all brutally executed by the revolutionaries in 1918, even the young children.

Beautiful furnishings

Bedroom of one of the princesses

Canopy and ceiling

We all had to wear plastic booties to protect the parquet floors.

The Pavlovsk Palace just a few miles from Catherine's Palace.  Pavel, or Tsar Paul I, was the son of Catherine the Great. He didn't get along with his mother, which may be why she had this beautiful palace built for him.

This was the last thing we saw before leaving the Palace.  As you pass by this paiting of Cupid, he appears to be shooting his arrow directly into your heart, which means you will fall in love at once.
